Stacey Tachenko
Stayce Violet Tachenko was born on July 17, 1915 in Butte,
North Dakota, the daughter of Victor and Olga Moseanko. She attended
grade and high school in the Butte area. After receiving her teaching
degree at Union College in Lincoln, Nebraska, she taught elementary school
in Colorado as well as in the central North Dakota area. On July 9, 1945,
Stayce married Gus Tachenko. They lived on the ranch in western North
Dakota where she was a ranch wife as well as continuing her career as
an elementary school teacher. They had two children, Cody and Shirley,
grandchildren and great-grandchildren. She loved her role as a leader
in church and community activities. She was one of the original Dorcas
Society leaders of the church. One of the early activities was pairing
Society members with families in need in post-World War II Europe, providing
clothes and goods as well as encouragement via letters. Organized efforts
followed through the years, providing clothing and food to those in need,
both distant and in the community.
